And you Can Tell Everybody, This is Your Song

nametune.gifA friend received a personalized music CD from a small company and I thought it was a great idea. Her daughter’s name was threaded throughout various lullabies, and Lexi seemed to love it. Unfortunately, when I tried to find one that played more than just lullabies, I did not have any luck. Then, a few weeks ago, an an email from Candace Alper, sat in my inbox, offering me a chance to review a CD from her company, Name Your Tune.As soon as I received my CD, I tore it open before I even got Mya situated in the living room. The design was even more vibrant than it looked on the website. And, Mya’s name was printed across the top in big black letters. I popped the CD in my CD/DVD player connected to my TV. As soon as she heard the music, Mya turned and smiled at me. She has always loved music, so that was no surprised, but what surprised me was that every time she heard her name (which the singers knew to pronounce My-a and not Mi-a), she looked right at the speakers. I’m not kidding.

We have listened to the CD numerous times in the car, in the living room, in her bedroom and even at her grandparents’ house. What I like the most about this CD is that the songs go from very energetic to mellow. I can play the CD right before bed and by the time it get to the end she is exhausted from dancing and is lulled to sleep with the “ABC Medley” and the “I Don’t Want to Live on the Moon” ballad.

This CD is a pleasure to listen to and uses quite a bit of imagination and creativity. Even well-known favorites like “Head and Shoulders” are sung in different ways. I suggest you stock up on these for any child’s upcoming birthday or for Christmas. Every child loves to hear his/her name in a song. Now, you can stop making up songs like “Ma-Ma-My-A-Roni” and allow the professionals to do it for you.

Oh, and every time you purchase a CD from Name Your Tune, a portion of the sale will be donated to Hear Here in Toronto. Hear Here provides children with hearing aides so they too can enjoy the music.

Single Parents, This One’s For You

15mindating.gifWhen I received a request from the owner to review her site, The 15-Minute Dating Blog, I was a little reluctant because most dating sites are the same. However, Cindy mentioned that the blog included real, funny, dating stories from various authors. So, I checked it out.

How does it look?
All-in-all, The 15-Minute Dating Blog, is a pretty decent site. The design is a little basic and, compared to the actual dating site, could use some fixing up. There are a few typos (not that I’m one to talk) that need to be taken care of, and I would love to see a list of contributors on the About Page so that you know who writes for the site.

The Content
The 15-Minute Dating Blog is the counterpart to Cindy’s Speed Dating site. That’s right, an online, video dating service where singles can meet others from the comfort of their own home. And it’s short; dates end in 15-minutes, so no more suffering through a full night of annoyance.

The blog is a collaborative effort and includes dating advice, humorous dating experiences, and more. There a few entries like“Have You Ever Googled Your Date”, that point you to other articles on the web. But then there are great articles like “Things I Have Learned From Uncle Craig” in which author Colleen O’Brien set the lying creeps straight. And for the men, there is “Creepy MySpace Women with Free Electronics” warning you about the very attractive predators lurking on social networking sites.

While I’m not in the market, if I were, I would visit this site every day. It has great content and the concept is cool.
